Coral Alden has a common law, general commercial law and public law practice.

She accepts briefs to appear, advise and prepare pleadings and other documents in matters involving torts (intentional, defamation, personal injury, dust diseases and professional negligence), representative proceedings, corporations law, bankruptcy and insolvency matters and judicial review and appeals matters.

Before coming to the Bar, Coral was Class Actions and Major Torts List Coordinator to the Honourable Justices J Forrest and John Dixon (2016-2017), Associate to the Honourable John T (Jack) Rush RFD QC (2014-2016) and Executive Assistant to the Honourable Associate Justice Daly (2011-2014), Supreme Court of Victoria.

As Coordinator, Coral has experience in intentional torts, defamation and large-scale representative proceedings.  In particular, she assisted in the hearing and conduct of the Christmas Island detention centre class action, the Snake Valley and Jack River bushfire class actions and the Roo Roofing class action.  Coral’s involvement also extended to the supervision of settlements in respect of the Bonsoy litigation and the Kilmore-East Kinglake and Murrindindi Black Saturday bushfire litigation.

As an Associate, Coral gained expertise in respect of complex cause and jury matters, principally in the areas of personal injury, dust diseases, civil circuits and judicial review and appeals. She also has experience in the conduct of urgent applications in the Practice Court.  

As Coordinator and Executive Assistant, Coral has extensive knowledge of the Supreme Court’s processes and procedures for the listing and management of civil and circuit proceedings for trial and, in particular, the hearing of pre-trial directions and interlocutory applications in respect of the Major Torts List.  

Coral also accepts briefs in criminal matters, having had experience as an Associate with criminal trials, bail applications and pleas.

Coral graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts in 2010 and from Monash University with a Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) in 2014. 

Coral is reading with Chris Young and her Senior Mentor is Stephen O'Meara QC.
